A WEEKLY MESSAGE
FROM DEACON SUBBY ENZOLERA
This past week I went to my doctor's office for a simple checkup. I was called back to the exam room by a nice nurse, maybe somewhere in her thirties. As we walked back to the room, we walked right by scale where I usually get weighed. I guess that was my Christmas present! As we entered the room I sat down on the chair and she began to take my vitals. She seemed a little quite, so I politely asked her how her
Christmas was. She told me that it had not been very good this year. Then she told me that she lost her husband suddenly just before Thanksgiving, WOW! In that moment, I was just in a state of shock. All I could do was to tell her how sorry I was for her as she struggled to hold back her tears. After my appointment was done, I walked by the nurse's station where she sitting. I could tell that she had been
crying. As I was getting to walk out the door, I turned back just to let her know I would keep her in my prayers. She shot up off her chair and gave me a huge hug which seemed like hours, and let me know how much that meant to her.
What a humbling experience. While I had such a wonderful Christmas, hers must have been such a struggle. I realized that this season may not be a time of preparation and celebration for everyone.
This weekend we celebrate the feast of the Epiphany, when the three Magi sought out Jesus by following the Star of Bethlehem to the place where Jesus was. This was not at the manger at the time of his birth, but at his house sometime later. We call it the Epiphany because it was the first manifestation of Jesus to other nations. Until then, he was only known to the Hebrews.
The Gospel of Matthew best tells us that the Magi came bearing gifts for Jesus. These were not simple trinkets, but meaningful gifts of Gold(representing his kingship), Frankincense(the Deity of Jesus), and Myrrh(a foreshadowing his death). So, I ask myself, what meaningful gift can I bring to Jesus this year? What gift would he be pleased with? Then, as I was writing this, I heard on the news of the tragedy in New Orleans, I couldn't fathom how anyone could have such hate in their hearts to just mow down and kill totally innocent people celebrating
the New Year together. Could this person possibly know Christ, our Lord and Savior?
So I decided, in simplest terms, I need to reveal Jesus Christ to those who do not yet know him or have a relationship with him. For people who do not know Jesus at all, I need to introduce them to His immense love for all of us. I also need to help deepen the relationship with Jesus for those who don't know him fully. I need to use all the gifts he has given me to Evangelize; to build heaven on earth. Maybe I need to
invite all these folks to attend an ALPHA series, our parishes' evangelization tool.
Have you decided what gift you plan to give Jesus this year? How can you reveal Jesus to those who may not know him or have a relationship with him? Maybe ALPHA is an answer for you?
Have a Blessed and Happy New Year!

PARISH FAMILY ANNOUNCEMENTS
The Epiphany celebrated on January 6, or the closest Sunday to that date, the feast of Epiphany allows us to truly comprehend what it means that God has brought His only Son into our world. The Wise Men – Caspar, Melchior, and Balthazar – were the first people outside of the stable to come and pay homage to Jesus.
An Epiphany Prayer...
O God, by the leading of a star you manifested your only Son to the peoples of the earth: Lead us, who know you now by faith, to your presence, where we may see your glory face to face; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.
The pink and purple poinsettias used for Advent decorations were donated to the residents of Omaha Nursing & Rehab Center. St Bernadette Junior Legion of Mary members delivered the poinsettias before Christmas.
A HUGE thank you to the Altar Society for donating the funds for four new top white altar cloths from Cosgrave's. These cloths are used at every Mass of the year and wear out from stains and candle wax drippings. We were in need of replacements. Thank you, Altar Society ladies!
Get Ready for the 2025 Nebraska Walk and Rally for Life!
Pope Francis ushered in the New Year with an appeal for the faithful to reject abortion calling for a “firm commitment” to protect and respect life from conception to natural death. The Nebraska Walk for Life shows our commitment to respect life at conception.
Please join us Saturday, February 1st in Lincoln for Nebraska’s largest rally for life. The Nebraska Right to Life hosts this annual event which draws thousands of pro-lifers to the Nebraska State Capitol to stand up for preborn babies and their mothers. This is the longest-running, largest pro-life event of the year! Together, we pray and walk in remembrance of those who have lost their lives to abortion as well as for those who have suffered because of abortion. This year will be the 52nd year for the Walk for Life event in Nebraska.
A short rally will begin on the north steps of the State Capitol, beginning at 10:00 a.m. (immediately following Mass at St. Mary’s Catholic Church). After the rally, we will begin our Walk together to our final destination at the Cornhusker Marriott Hotel to hear from guest speaker Elizabeth Gillette.
Elizabeth writes and speaks about how love conquers the greatest tragedy of our time: abortion. Like so many women, Elizabeth has experienced abortion first-hand. The traumatic experience shook her faith and caused devastating side effects. Through the saving grace of Jesus Christ, she found healing and forgiveness. She is now the mother of four living children and a passionate advocate for life.
If you any questions or if you would like to carpool to this rally, please call Linda Krupa (402-932-4353) or Rita Frickel (402-734-3573).
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT!
Thanks to everyone who joined us for our annual Turkey Dinner at Holy Ghost. A HUGE thanks to our volunteers who make this such a wonderful and successful event every year!
A HUGE thanks to our volunteers and everyone who came out to our recent Chicken Dinners! We are so grateful for your continued support of our parish. We hope to see everyone at our next chicken dinner in January.
In case you missed it, our friends at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church celebrated the 50th anniversary of their annual polish festival on Sunday, August 18. Dozens of volunteers worked all summer long creating 26,591 handmade pierogis: a popular polish dumpling filled with kraut, potato and cheese.

ST. BERNADETTE PARISH NEWS
The following section contains news and information on clubs, activities, special events and ministry initiatives specific to St. Bernadette Parish.
As our St. Bernadette family anticipates the coming of our Lord during Advent, we are also anticipating the renovation of our beautiful church! Tentatively, this renovation will begin after Advent, likely, mid-January. As most of you are aware, we will temporarily be relocating our Masses to Holy Ghost Church.
Based on feedback from many St. Bernadette parishioners, we are planning to host social events to continue to connect with “old” friends as well as getting to meet new parishioners. Most of these social events will be based back at St. Bernadette’s Social Hall monthly.
We will keep you updated as to the details of these events via the bulletin as well as via announcements at the pulpit. We would also like to invite each of you to consider being a greeter at Masses on a rotating basis.
While our Holy Ghost family has had a greeter at each door for each of their Masses, they have most graciously invited our St. Bernadette family to assist them in this ministry while we are temporarily relocated there. We would also like to adopt having a greeter at the upper AND lower entrances at St. Bernadette before and after the renovation.
If you would like to be a greeter, please contact either Rita Frickel at 402-734-3573 OR Deacon Tom Schulte at 402-669-1301 by Dec. 18. Thank you and God Bless!
This Sunday, we celebrate the Holy Family of Jesus, Mary and Joseph. May you pray to our Holy Family as you ask for prayers and blessings for your own Family. Enjoy your time with family. Remember no classes until Jan. 8, 2025.

We want to give a heartfelt thank you to all the Legion of Mary Legionnaires and the Junior Legionnaires for their help at the Omaha Nursing And Rehabilitation Center.

These volunteers also provided manicures and one-on-one visits with the residents.
We also want to thank Fr. Phil Flott, and Deacon Gary Krupa, Deacon Al Aulner and Deacon Tom Schulte for Mass and communion services. Their lives have been enriched spiritually and emotionally.
Thank you and God Bless you! Omaha Nursing Home

MISSION TRIP TO GUATEMALA
Spirit of Solidarity – Join Us on A Mission
Since 2004, parishioners from across the Archdiocese of Omaha have gone to our sister diocese in Huehuetenango, Guatemala to work alongside our sisters and brothers in Christ. Ixim missionaries build bridges of understanding and solidarity by learning about the lives and realities of those in Huehuetenango.
Over the years, Ixim missionaries have staffed medical clinics, taught lessons at local schools, applied fluoride treatments to children, assisted with reforestation projects, painted parish and school buildings, and helped implement clean water projects. Our 20th trip will be June 12 – June 23, 2025.
Learn more about our mission trip at an upcoming information meeting: Contact Charlie for Zoom links or to reserve a spot at an in-person information meeting: cpetro@archomaha.org or 531-218-6354 (call or text).
