WEEKLY MESSAGE
FROM DEACON TOM SCHULTE
A.I. – “Artificial Intelligence”
I saw a documentary recently about the advent and rapid advance of A.I. (artificial intelligence) in our world. It spoke about how it is already being utilized in our daily lives and some of the effect that is currently having on our societies. It then spoke about how quickly A.I. is advancing and how rapidly it’s applications will be applied and affect almost every aspect of our lives. It went on to forecast how those changes will/can fundamentally change how we see ourselves as human beings, how we will interact with each other, and how the integration of A.I. into our everyday routine will make us more dependent on machines and less dependent on each other.
I am sure that many of you have been keeping up on the advancement and integration of A.I. as well and if you are anything like me, you have some legitimate concerns about where all of this progress is leading us and what it will mean to the future of humankind. As a Catholic Christian the documentary filled my head with questions, “Will the further integration of artificial intelligence in our lives bring us closer to or further from the person God created us to be? Will it improve our relationship with God or become another distraction driving us away from God?” Will it instruct and guide us to live out the things that are God’s ‘will’ for us, or will it fill our heads with contradictions and an artificial ‘dependence’ that will lead us away from God?”
G.I. – “God’s Intelligence”
Artificial Intelligence is just that, ARTIFICIAL (False – Fake – Simulated – Synthetic). The creator and source of A.I. is man (and woman) and therefore it will have the same flaws and misguided purpose and unintended failures as those who created it. There is only ONE north star for us to follow and depend on in our short time of physical existence. GOD’S INTELLIGENCE created all that we know, all that we are, and all we were gifted with. It is GOD’S INTELLIGENCE that is always available to guide, strengthen and comfort us when we open our hearts to the Holy Spirit. GOD’S INTELLIGENCE is not flawed, or misdirected or have unintended failures.
Let us put our lives into the Divine Plan created for us by God’s Intelligence and live always guided by the intelligent heart of our Creator.
Blessings,
Deacon Tom Schulte

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT!
In case you missed it, our friends at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church celebrated the 50th anniversary of their annual polish festival on Sunday, August 18. Dozens of volunteers worked all summer long creating 26,591 handmade pierogis: a popular polish dumpling filled with kraut, potato and cheese.
In case you missed it, Holy Ghost held its 2nd Annual Car Show! We loved seeing all the cool, classic cars fill up our Holy Ghost parking lot. Thanks to EVERYONE who participated and entered their car, truck, or motorcycle into our car show.
In case you missed it, a BIG congratulations to longtime parishioner and Holy Ghost choir director, Benjamin Baber who recently received the honor of "Man of the Year" at this year's car show. Ben has been a lifelong member of Holy Ghost Parish. He attended Holy Ghost Catholic School through the 8th Grade and was also an altar server. Since he was a young boy, Ben helped with the June Jamboree and continued to support each year until the final June Jamboree event in 2019. He has worked as a dishwasher for the famous Holy Ghost Fish Fry's, Chicken Dinners, and Turkey Dinners. Ben has served on the Liturgy committee and the committee for the merger of both Holy Ghost and St. Bernadette into one Parish Family. Ben has served as the choir director for Holy Ghost for almost 20 years. Please join us in celebrating and honoring Benjamin Baber as our "Man of the Year" for 2024.

All women are invited to our Magnificat Omaha Fall Brunch at St. Robert Bellarmine Catholic Church at 9:30 a.m. on Sept. 21 with guest speaker Maria Vadia. Born in Havana, Cuba, Maria Vadia was ten years old when she and her family fled to Miami, Florida, to escape the communist regime in her native country. She attended Catholic schools but became a Sunday-only Catholic with no personal relationship with Jesus as her Lord. Later, when she had everything all the world could offer, she was gripped by a deep emptiness. Maria’s life was radically changed when she was baptized in the Holy Spirit, consecrated her life to Jesus, and to preaching the Gospel to all. Maria has spoken at conferences in more than 30 nations, conveying faith, salvation, and healing. She is the founder of the Jesus is Lord Chapter of Magnificat in Miami and is associated with the Glory House of Miami, a safe haven for human trafficking victims. Despite great adversity, the Lord has been with Maria like a “mighty warrior” (Jeremiah 20:11). She is the author of several books, including No More Orphans; Healing is for You, There’s Power in Your Tongue and Fire Power: The Fire of the Holy Spirit Amid Chaos.
Reservations are required and will close when filled.
$20.00 person includes brunch.
For reservations and information, visit: www.MagnificatOmaha.org or call Terri Aulner at 402-669-9024.

“The Hottest Festival In Town” had a great run, but now it’s time for a new community tradition currently named “It’s not the Festival.” There will be some things that look familiar like sausage and peppers, bingo, music, beer garden, and meat wheel. There will also be things for kids to do. Please check the home page of the parish website for more information as well as opportunities to make this a successful event.

As we continue into the month of September, may we continue to be aware of how we can live like St. Teresa of Calcutta. We also take time this month to thank all those teachers, Catechists, that teach us about our Catholic faith. May God always bless them especially on September 15, as we celebrate Catechetical Sunday.

Spending Time with the Saints
This year, during our Wednesday evening Family Classes for Religious Education (PRE), we decided to add something new. During the months of September, October, November, February, March, and April, we will be doing Saints and S'mores!
At our Family Classes during these months, we will do our closing prayer acknowledging and praying to certain Saints and then enjoying S'mores!
For each of these 6 classes, we will need graham crackers, marshmallows, and chocolate bars. If you would like to donate to this part of our program to offset the costs of these items…it would greatly appreciated.
Please contact Sue Reed in the Parish Office or put your donation in an envelope labeled S'mores and place it in the weekly collection basket. Thank you for being supportive of this wonderful program.
This year we will once again be doing the Boxes of Joy. Collection of items will be in September and October. If you would like to shop for some items now, that would be great. We will have a collection basket in the back of the Church.
A couple of "Boxes of Joy" team members went on a mission trip, and below are some of the items they noticed the children really liked:
Playing cards, card games (UNO, GO FISH, etc.) \
Crochet hooks and yarn,
Craft items or kits, (beads, pipe cleaners, bracelet string)
Small playing balls, (can be deflated)
Matchbox cars
Lego sets
Solar digital watches
Calculators.
Remember that we can not include liquid of any kind in these boxes.
Continue to watch for more Boxes of Joy information!
Altar Society Bake Sale
The Altar Society will have our annual BEAP Bake Sale after both Masses on Sept. 14 & 15. There will be a wonderful variety of baked goodies available to purchase. We appreciate any baked goods donated for the bake sale. All proceeds of this sale go to the “Bernadette Education Assistance Program.” Thank you for your support and may God bless you!
